A driver has escaped serious injury after his car hit a pole and ploughed into a brick fence in Beeliar last night.

The crash happened just after midnight on Spearwood Avenue, near the Grange.

Police say the Hyundai Santa Fe Station Sedan left the road and struck a pole, causing it to crash into some bushes, then a brick fence.

It took eight firefighters to free the driver, who was the only person in the car.

The man in his 20s received minor injuries and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.
