‘We’re thinking of you’: West Aussies impacted by bushfires get shout-out during Super Bowl coverage

The West Australian
VideoWATCH: Perth may be the most isolated city in the world but it was on centre stage during Super Bowl 55, with a shoutout to those affected by last week's fires.

The devastating bushfires which have ravaged Perth’s hills and our South West have been recognised during today’s Super Bowl coverage.

The disasters were referenced by Steve Levy as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers battled the Kansas City Chiefs.

“We just want to say we’re thinking about all the people impacted by those bushfires in Perth, Western Australia,” the ESPN caller said during today’s broadcast of the NFL showpiece, which was beamed onto screens across Australia and New Zealand.

“A lot of lost property, impacting people’s lives. We want you to know we’re thinking about you and wishing for the best to get through this whole thing.”

Those watching the telecast at home were quick to offer praise for the shout-out, given the devastation felt right across the State.

“Touch of class shown here by the commentators of the (Super Bowl) giving a shout-out to Perth,” John Apotsis said on Twitter.

Another, Lyle Swithenbank, said the commentators were “legends”.

The Super Bowl commentators giving a shout out to the Perth bush fire victims. Legends,” he said.
