Geraldton mayor’s Fists of Fury all for a good cause as fight profits to boost disability organisation ATLAS

Smashing a hammer into a tyre in 40C heat with no air conditioning to prepare to step into a cage to face down a fearsome opponent sounds full on — but it’s all for a good cause.

When City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn and at least a dozen other local fighters step into the ring at Sheds n Homes Fists of Fury III - King of the Cage in April, profits on the night will go to Access To Leisure and Sport to help support people living with disabilities.

“Boxing is all about self-improvement, titles and money,” Van Styn said.

“But knowing we are also putting ourselves through this to benefit others is the greatest joy I get from boxing.”

The Muay Thai, mixed martial arts and boxing event will feature Geraldton’s first cage matches.

Van Styn, known as Stone Cold in the ring, is training for his second bout and the title of Geraldton super heavyweight champion is on the line.
