Inaugural Mid West youth forum to put mental health, child justice, education under the spotlight
Youth organisations from across the Mid West will meet in Geraldton early next month to explore the key issues affecting young people in the region.
The inaugural Midwest Youth Sector Forum gives youth service workers a chance to voice their opinions on hot button topics like mental health, education, child protection and youth justice.
Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia is hosting the event on November 4 as part of a push to strengthen outcomes for young people in regional WA.
YACWA Mid West regional project officer Melissa Hankin said it was an opportunity for organisations to pitch ideas to State and local politicians, including Youth Minister Dave Kelly.
“We are trying to work out with our established organisations what is working well already, what we can do to overcome barriers and where the money needs to go,” Ms Hankin said.
Ms Hankin said youth organisations generally didn’t link up and work together on the issues affection young people, which YACWA was trying to remedy.
She said youth homelessness was just one of the big challenges facing regional cities like Geraldton.
