Juniors learn the ropes of officiating in new Katanning Netball Association umpiring program

Katanning Netball Association had a vibrant feel last weekend, with everyone excited about the return to action after a fortnight off.

Juniors tried the new umpiring program, which allows them to be guided by Saturday’s local umpires.

The program is creating a new generation of passionate umpires.

Net and Set programs ran smoothly, and all the children are really embracing their coaches’ advice.

Juniors aged five and older are learning basic ball skills and teamwork.

It will be great to see them in action in a real juniors competition.

Meanwhile, in the seniors division A and A reserve, the three top teams each had a win.

Kojonup 1 and Cardinals Force put in strong performances,with Kojonup winning, 58-32.

Olympians 1 were too quick for Broomehill, 57-24.

Dumbleyung 1 were outclassed by Allstars 1, who almost tripled their score to prevail 62-24, while Kia Ora had a bye.

Division B's margins were a lot closer this round.

Allstars 2 won, but Kojonup 2 were not giving up that easily, going down 29-39.

Cardinals Phoenix could not quite get the win but did exceptionally well against Tambellup Bluebirds, who won 49-31, while Olympians 2 had a bye.

In division C, Kojonup 3 won 49-29 over Olympians 3 while Cardinals Vixens really came together and in a great display to beat Dumbleyung 2, 36-17.

Over the past few weeks, there have been some make-up up games from round one for the division A and A reserve competition.

All three games were exceptional, with Kojonup 1 just hanging on, 45-44, over Kia Ora while in another strong and fast-paced game, Allstars 1 edged out Olympians 1, 53-48.

Cardinals Force finished 37-25 winners over Dumbleyung 1.
