She’s already won $10 million — and now a Perth retiree has pocketed another $200,000 after winning Lotto for the second time in a decade.
The woman, who hails from Perth’s eastern suburbs, won a blockbuster division one Oz Lotto jackpot back in 2018 that saw her crowned an instant multimillionaire.
Eight years later, her son’s impromptu decision to pickup a $10 Scratch’N’Win from a Midland newsagency would see the woman strike Lotto gold twice.
“I thought I’d grab one too so we could scratch them together,” she revealed.
When she scratched her ticket, the retiree was stunned to see that she had scored a jaw-dropping $200,000 from the game.
“I thought I must be seeing things, I kept looking at the ticket because I thought I’d added an extra zero in my head,” she said.
“I can’t believe we’ve bought two tickets from our local newsagency and won twice — what are the chances!
“It was meant to be a bonding moment, I really never imagined I’d be celebrating another major prize.”
Most Lotto players dream of buying homes and quitting their jobs after winning it big — goals the retiree already accomplished with her initial $10 million jackpot back in 2018.
Instead, the lucky Perth punter said she hopes to use her second jackpot for investments to further support her family.
“We don’t need to rush out and buy anything but this gives us a chance to help our family and learn a bit more about investing for the future,” she said.
Lotterywest spokesperson Nikki Wilson-Smith said it was heartwarming that both the retiree’s jackpots were from the same Midland newsagency.
“Despite her life-changing win in 2018, she has remained connected to her local retailer and continues to enjoy the simple rituals that Lotterywest games can create between family and friends,” she said.
The chances of winning a Lotto prize twice are about 24 trillion to one.
Despite the rare odds, the Perth woman is not the only Sandgroper to have Lotto lightning strike twice this year — with twin brothers from Albany winning their second jackpot in 18 months back in September.
