The actions of good samaritans have rescued a 50-year-old log truck driver from his overturned vehicle after a rollover at the intersection of Graphite Road and Lewin Road.

About 9.45am, Nannup Police believe the single-trailer truck went around a sweeping bend, with the trailer hitting the edge of the road and dragging the truck over onto its side.

“Luckily for the driver some trees and some heavy dirt and tree rubble on the side of the road stopped him from sliding off,” officer-in-charge Sgt Al McNevin said.

By the time police reached the scene, the truck’s driver had been cut from his seatbelt and helped from the cab by two passers-by who had stopped to help and was receiving first aid from other members of the public.

Sgt McNevin thanked the members of the public who put themselves in danger to help with the driver’s rescue.

“This is a pretty dangerous situation to be in and for those members of the public who put themselves in danger, it’s really great that they would do that,” he said.

“We don't normally suggest that people put themselves in a situation where they could be injured but that's just normal humanity, these people want to help and that’s exactly what they did.

“That’s the benefit of having small communities like this that want to help each other and that's exactly what that was this morning.”

The driver was flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC Rescue Helicopter after being assessed by attending St John Ambulance officers, with bruising, cuts and possible fractures.

Volunteers from Nannup Fire and Rescue and Manjimup Department of Fire and Emergency Services also attended the scene.
