Boyup Brook Medical Centre has undergone a mini revolution, recruiting two new doctors, a practice manager and transitioning to a new booking system.

Dr Mildred Chiwara and Dr Phillip De Ronchi will start on June 2.

Boyup Brook shire chief executive Chris Smith said the council was delighted to have recruited two doctors to the council-run medical practice.

“It was never going to be an easy task and I would have been happy to have got one, but to have landed two was gold,” he said.

“Both of them are very well credentialed senior doctors, both have substantial experience not just as GPs but in a surgical sense as well.” They will be joined in Boyup Brook by Nicki Jones, the new practice manager.

“She is a very savvy lady and I think that will help as well,” Mr Smith said.

The practice’s existing booking system will be replaced with the Hot Doc system, which will allow doctor’s appointments to be booked online.

“If they are current patients, they can book online for appointments, so that’s a huge step forward for us,” Mr Smith said.

Shire president Richard Walker said the recruitment was a good outcome for the Boyup Brook community.

“We are hoping it will encourage people outside the district to come to Boyup for medical appointments, which will then in turn support the practice for the community,” he said.

“If we can get the practice to be self supporting, which is something the shire has invested in heavily over the years, I think it will be beneficial.”

“I think Chris has done an excellent job in securing two very good doctors and we look forward to welcoming them.”
