Bridgetown Bulldogs star midfielder Hugh Mitchell has shown that he can do the business in other leagues, taking home the Augusta-Margaret River Hawks’ Best and Fairest Award for its South West Football League side.

Mitchell said he had settled in well, despite having to play out of the midfield for his initial games for the club.

“It was business as usual, it wasn’t too much of a change,” he said.

“It’s satisfying to be able to go to another comp and do well.”

The Hawks finished sixth in the competition, winning four out of their nine games.

SWFL matches are played with 18 players on the field, while the Lower South West Football League plays with 16 per side.

“South West league is 18-a-side, so it’s a little bit more congested,” Mitchell said.

He said while he enjoyed playing away, he loved playing for the Bulldogs.

“I definitely love playing down here, playing for your home town has a better feel about it, but I definitely enjoyed both,” he said.

“After winning last year we were going to have a good team again. It’s a shame we didn’t get to play and obviously it’s a good way to see your mates, so it’s a bit disappointing.”
