Sports clubs throughout the community are beginning to plan a return to the fields and courts, with the introduction of Phase 3 COVID-19 restrictions on June 6.

The easing of restrictions allows for contact sport and training to resume.

The Manjimup Netball Association season will start to coincide with term three of school, which begins on July 20.

The season will run for nine weeks total, with eights weeks of regular competition and a grand final to be held in week nine.

Association president Jess Durbin said she was pleased to see the season return.

“The events of this year have really highlighted that you can’t underestimate the importance of sport in the community, for both physical activity and mental wellbeing,” she said.

“Players are very keen to get out and active again.”

All grades will play, with seniors, juniors and Net Set Go competitions to run during the season.

Hockey is also making a return in Manjimup, with the Warren Women’s Hockey association to hold a come and try day on Saturday at the Collier Street Hockey Grounds, between 10.15am and 12pm.

The day is open to all school age children and equipment will be provided by the association, along with prizes and a free sausage sizzle for lunch.

Players can sign up for the season on the day, which is due to start on June 20, and will end in September.

Women’s Hockey Association president Carol Samsa said prior hockey experience was not required.

“It’s purely for enjoyment,” she said.

“We just want to give them the taste of hockey and hopefully the taste is enough that they like it and they’ll sign up and play hockey for our shortened season.”
