The musical and creative talents of Manjimup’s youth will be on show when So My Fest kicks off at the Pemberton Memorial Park next weekend.

The seventh year of the youth festival will see a focus on music and performance but will continue to champion the much loved activities and stalls which each year provide entertainment for locals.

So My Fest coordinator Maegen Campbell said the festival was an important initiative due to a lack of youth-based projects and events in the area.

“It’s to celebrate the positive contribution that young people have in our community. So My Fest will provide a free and safe environment for young people to enjoy,” she said.

Musical talents set to shine at the event include Amphead, Lou Cully and Lucy Tartagalia who will perform live to South West locals.

Shire president Paul Omodei said one third of the Manjimup population was classified as youth and it was important to engage, acknowledge and celebrate their community contributions.

“This year has been a challenge for everyone, including our youth and this is a great opportunity for them to get out and have some fun,” he said.

During the festival the Shire of Manjimup Youth Network will support the Youth Mental Health foundation by providing information from a range of mental health organisations including Blackwood Youth Action and the South West Aboriginal Medical Service.

So My Fest will take place this weekend on October 17.
