A $75,000 Lotterywest grant will be put towards entertainment events in the City of Greater Geraldton.

Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton presented the grant to mayor Shane Van Styn, who said it would go a long way in putting on popular upcoming events in and around Geraldton.

“Because of this funding we can continue delivering the popular Morning Melodies, host theatre performances and workshops for youth in Mullewa and Walkaway, as well as put on an Australia Day event at the Geraldton Foreshore,” he said.

One particular performance in the works is Whoosh, an interactive sensory space adventure from Perth-based company Sensorium Theatre, specifically designed for children with disabilities and those on the autism spectrum.

“Whoosh is a fantastic workshop that we are able to provide for children with a disability. This will be a real treat for both the participants, their families and everyone involved,” Mr Van Styn said.

The show, set to come to town in March, will see children take on roles as engineers, pilots and navigators on a trip through the galaxy, trying space food and experiencing hyperdrive as they travel to the mysterious Planet X.

“Our community certainly appreciates and loves the initiatives that come out of this vital funding from Lotterywest,” Mr Van Styn said.
