The Shire of Narrogin will receive $184,500 in funding from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services for risk-reduction practices on crown land.

Thirty-three mitigation activities will be carried out in Foxes Lair, Highbury, Narrogin Caravan Park, the White Road Landfill site, and parkland reserves around built-up areas.

“The intended works will make the volunteers’ job safer while protecting the community and critical assets,” Shire chief bushfire control officer Pip Porter said.

The works will include prescribed burning, installation of gates and fencing, creating and re-establishing strategic fire breaks, and eco-mulching of high fuel areas.

The Shire will seek quotes from contractors with the necessary experience and equipment in the coming weeks to carry out the work next year. Shire president Leigh Ballard, who is a volunteer firefighter with Narrogin VFRS, spoke about the importance of this funding in giving Narrogin a safe summer.

“The successful funding into our community will have the effect of making our community more resilient and safer while protecting critical infrastructure, and is a direct result of adopting our Bushfire Risk Management Plan only months earlier,” Cr Ballard said.
