WA Christmas Day weather: Bureau of Meteorology forecasts scorching 39C top temp for Perth

Santa is looks like he’s going to deliver a Christmas scorcher for Perth with the official weather forecast predicting the mercury could hit close to 40C.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a top of 39C, an early sunrise and a mostly clear day for the metropolitan region, with east to northeasterly winds expected up to 15 to 25 km/h before turning westerly throughout the day.

Temps are likely to bottom out at about 25C.

If the forecast eventuates, it will be the hottest Christmas Day for the city since 2021, when a maximum temperature of 42.8C was recorded.

Conditions are slightly cooler down south, with Esperance, Busselton, Margaret River and Albany all forecast to reach into the low 30s.

Across the state, temperatures will start climbing slowly from Tuesday ahead of the Christmas blast.

The heat is being driven by a west coast trough, pushing warm north-easterly winds across parts of the state.
