Roebourne-based Michael Ball’s horse Crossaro has claimed the prestigious Roebourne Cup by 1.79 lengths at the Nor West Jockey Club.

Thousands of punters flocked to the racecourse for the 2200m main race, the 154th running of the Roebourne Cup.

Jockey Peta Edwards guided Crossaro to a steady start, running sixth with 800m to go.

A strong run home pushed Crossaro into fourth with 400m left before a late sprint put the Roebourne-based horse finish well clear of Ombudsman by 1.79 lengths.

Bambun Boy rounded out the top three, trailing by 3.16 lengths.

In the opening 1200m race, Miss Silversprings stormed home to finish 2.22 lengths clear of Luna Nobel and Aussie Euro.

The six-year-old Shinju edged out Denga and Modern Times in the Aus Fleet Solution 1100m, with less than one length separating the top three.

Tom Pike’s Shy Boy claimed the Wickham Plumbing 1100m handicap, ahead of Rakiura, while the Pike-trained Who’s Your Mamma trailed by 1.25L to round out the top three.

It was a dominant performance from Top Notch Scotch in the Janice Ball Handicap, with the four-year-old leading the final 800m of the 1400m race.

Top Notch Scotch crossed the line 0.98 lengths clear of Sunday At Six, with Calling Card finishing third.

Elafella claimed the fifth race of the meet in a photo-finish ahead of Johnny Reb and Rhino Buster.

The New Zealand-based Block Of Land came out on top of the 1800m Karratha Fluid Power with a strong race, Bellini Boy crossed the line second trailed by Hezazeb.

In the final race of the meet, the Pike-trained Can’tcatchthis led the field home, with Counter Drive and Zeewijk second and third respectively.
