Community members in the Shire of Ashburton have been invited to celebrate Australia Day by participating in a variety of free family-friendly events across the district on January 26.

Paraburdoo residents can enjoy a free barbecue, entertainment from Magic Dale and a lamington-eating competition while Pannawonica residents have been invited to dress in their best Aussie attire and take part in family-friendly games at the sporting club.

A complimentary Aussie breakfast will be provided at Tom Price with prizes up for grabs for the best mullet and best dress up.

Onlsow will be celebrating in true Aussie style at the town’s aquatic centre with a thong-throwing and bombie competition as well as the Regatta Race.

Shire president Kerry White said she was thrilled to see the amazing events on offer.

“Australia Day presents a fantastic opportunity to appreciate the life we are all lucky to enjoy in the Pilbara,” she said.

“On this day we recognise the wealth of opportunities and freedoms that are available to Australians and celebrate the multicultural diversity of our peoples, which will be acknowledged in various citizenship ceremonies on the day.

“Through these events, we are also reminded to acknowledge and learn about our vibrant nation’s past.”
