Record year sees June throughput increase for Pilbara Ports Authority

Total throughput across ports in the Pilbara Ports Authority increased by 4 per cent last month compared with the same period last year.

The PPA announced on July 25 it had delivered a total monthly throughput of 65.9 million tonnes for June 2022.

The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 50.3Mt, of which 49.8Mt was iron ore exports, a one per cent decrease compared with the previous June period.

Imports meanwhile through the Port Hedland facility totalled 185,000 tonnes, an increase of 7 per cent compared with June 2021.

The Port of Dampier throughput jumped by 28 per cent compared with last June with a total of 14.6Mt.

Imports skyrocketed by 50 per cent compared with the June 2021 figure, with the Dampier facility reporting imports totalled 116,000 tonnes for June.

It comes as the PPA reported a record-breaking throughput for the 2021-22 financial year with a total annual throughput of 724.7Mt.

The PPA includes port facilities in Port Hedland, Dampier, Ashburton and Varanus Island.

Collectively, the four Pilbara ports were responsible for 42 per cent of the world’s iron ore trade and almost 7 per cent of global LNG trade.
