Battle of the mums looms

Margaret River’s AMRzons mums football team is looking for more players ahead of its annual game against Dunsborough on September 1.

The Mums Football Challenge match at the Dunsborough Playing Fields will decide the best town in a fun match with entertainment, a DJ, and a bar.

AMRzons player Kim Maguire said the family event was open to the communities of Margaret River and Dunsborough.

Maguire said the team raised more than $13,000 for cancer charity River Angels last year and hoped sponsors would come on board to help them beat the target.

“We are still on the hunt for new mums to join, whether to compete or just come train,” she said.

“We have our wonderful coaching team on board again — David Noske, Todd Armstrong, and Eric Becker, and hopefully our tutu-wearing runner, (former West Coast Eagle) Dean Kemp will come on board again.”

Mums Football Challenge chairman David Larsen said he hoped the towns would turn out to show their support.

“It’s not about being the best footballing mums in the region, rather about striving to be the town with the best community spirit in the region,” he said.

Entertainment starts at 6pm for a 6.30pm kick off. For more information, contact Maguire by phoning 0409 770 667.
