Rottnest Island will host some of WA’s best surfers at the weekend’s HIF WA Pro Am Series to find 2017 State champions across nine divisions.

Surfers compete for a position in the WA State team to contest the Australian Surf Festival at Tweed, NSW, in August.

Open men’s ratings leader Jerome Forrest will look to back up his efforts on Rottnest in the coming days.

“It’s good to see another solid line-up of competitors after a great first event in Margaret River,” Forrest told Surfing WA. “These events mean a lot to me and it’s good to be pushed by the experienced guys as well as the grommets coming through the ranks.”

Former World Tour competitor Claire Bevilacqua (Yallingup) will headline a stacked open women’s division.

“I have so many fond memories of competing on Rottnest as a junior,” she said.

“I’m really looking forward to the event and the forecast is shaping up really nicely.”

Margaret River’s Cyrus Cox and Jolan Bonelli will compete in the Open men’s and under-21 pro junior divisions.

Other big names will include Paul Paterson (City Beach), Tommy Trigwell (Yallingup), Brad Cowan (Margaret River) and Andrew Sheridan (Margaret River).
