Manjimup police are urging drivers to buckle up and take care on local roads as officers continue targeted road policing operations across the district during the school holidays.

Local police have been focusing on the Fatal Five factors that continue to contribute to serious and fatal crashes on WA roads, namely speeding, drink/drug-driving, driver fatigue, distraction (including mobile phones) and failure to wear seatbelts.

Manjimup police officer-in-charge Sgt Tyler Winter said officers had been paying particular attention to seatbelt compliance, with two drivers issued infringement notices in Manjimup or failing to wear a seatbelt over the weekend.

“While some may view seatbelts as a minor issue, they remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash,” he said.

“Our message is simple: every trip, every seat, every time.

“Road policing is not about revenue raising. It is about reducing the number of families who receive a knock on the door advising that a loved one will not be coming home.

“We will continue to target drink-driving, drug-driving, speeding, distraction and seatbelt offences with the aim of reducing serious injuries and fatalities on our roads.”
