Northern beaches have been closed after multiple shark sightings were reported in the area.

Fisheries officials are urging people to stay out of the water at Whitford Beach and Pinnaroo Point, north of Hillarys Boat Harbour.

It is possible that the frequency of recent reported sightings could increase the likelihood of shark attacks in the area.

Authorities including Fisheries, local government rangers and Surf Life Saving WA are monitoring the situation.
