Perth petrol prices trickle through to the regions

The cost of fuel in the South West is soaring as the high prices paid in Perth trickle through to the regions.
Prices that have been soaring at Perth bowsers the past month have finally hit fuel pumps in the South West, one petrol station charging $2.15/L on Wednesday.
The average ULP price for the South West of $1.989/L was just a fraction above the WA average price of $1.982/L from June 6-12.
A FuelWatch spokesperson said petrol prices had increased significantly over the past six months as the prices of international oil and refined fuel had risen.
“This was driven by the international benchmark price for domestic petrol, the Singapore price of petrol, increasing by 96 per cent over that same period,” the spokesperson said.
He said the main factors for the price hike were that global demand outstripped supply as COVID-19 related restrictions were lifted, further compounded by the sanctions placed on Russian oil and refined fuel as a result of the Ukraine war.
“More recently, the United States entered their summer driving season, further placing upward pressure on prices,” the spokesperson said, adding that the US was the biggest oil-consuming nation in the world.
Darnell’s General Store in Rosa Brook was charging $2.15/L on Wednesday, the highest price in the South West.
The lowest price in the region on Wednesday was $1.94 at the 7-Eleven Busselton.
