Stable condition: two 11-year-old boys injured in separate SW incidents remain in Perth Children’s Hospital

Two 11-year-old boys seriously injured after being hit by vehicles in two separate incidents in the South West are both in a stable condition at Perth Children’s Hospital. A boy from Bunbury was injured after being struck by a vehicle near the Bunbury Farmer’s Market on Saturday while another boy who was visiting the region for the school holidays was injured in a caravan park near Margaret River on Monday evening. Police said the boy from Bunbury was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Forrest Highway and Vittoria Road, at the front of the popular South West grocer about 2.40pm on Saturday, after he ran in front of traffic on Forrest Highway. He sustained serious injuries and was conveyed to Bunbury Regional Hospital, before being transferred to Perth Children’s Hospital. On Wednesday afternoon a hospital spokesperson said the boy was in a stable condition. South West District Police Superintendent Geoff Stewart said police were not laying charges against the driver of the vehicle. “It’s a tragic set of circumstances,” Supt Stewart said. “There’s no enforcement being carried out to the driver at all.” In a separate incident on Monday about 6pm an 11-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle at a caravan park in Rosa Brook near Margaret River. It is understood the boy was riding his bicycle at Big Valley Caravan Park about 5pm when he was hit by a motorist. He was transferred by rescue helicopter to Gloucester Park in Margaret River where medical staff joined the flight on to Perth Children’s Hospital. A hospital spokesman told the Times on Wednesday afternoon that the boy remained in a serious but stable condition. The Times understands the boy and his family were visiting the region as part of the school holidays. Supt Stewart said investigations were ongoing.
