A renowned watercolour artist is set to launch a new exhibition this weekend in line with the arrival of the spring and wildflower season.

Award-winning Yallingup creative Veritas Fazakerley will showcase her signature botanical paintings with a modern twist at Margaret River Art Studio over the next two weeks.

Fazakerley’s art career has garnered a strong following locally and has sold pieces to private collections in the UK, France and Denmark, while also available in Walpole and Aspects store in Kings Park.

The artist said before she even opened the doors to her Margaret River exhibition there had already been a strong demand.

“I’ve already sold one piece, someone came by while we were hanging work and setting up the exhibition and bought something,” she said.

Her journey as an artist started after taking watercolour classes with her husband and moving to Yallingup more than a decade ago, before establishing herself as a professional artist. T

Fazakerley said the idyllic and diverse scenery around her property was a source of inspiration for her works.

“We live back from the ridge in Yallingup and from our house we look out to Smith’s Beach, wineries and national park, it’s the light here, but also the abundance of flora, the flowering gums, banksias, marri trees,” she said.

“I’m trying to bring watercolour botanicals the next century, make them more modern, for modern homes.

“I’ve been told botanical art is becoming flavour of the month in Europe and the UK.”

Fazakerley said one of her most recent pieces had taken her 85 hours and painting a single leaf in one of her works would take one hour in itself, with five layers of paint used for each one.

“I used to get an amazing dichotomy of colours, it’s one of the ways I’ve perfected my own style,” she said.

The exhibition opens on Saturday at Margaret River Art Studio and will run until October 15.
