Bunbury-based builder Perkins awarded $13.6 million tender by City of Bunbury for Hands Oval Redevelopment

The redevelopment of the South West’s premier football ground is continuing to progress, with the City of Bunbury awarding the tender for the project at a recent meeting. The City of Bunbury awarded the $13.6 million tender to Bunbury-based commercial builder Perkins for the redevelopment of Hands Oval — the home of the South West Football League and its grand final matches, as well as South Bunbury Football Club. Mayor Jaysen Miguel said this was a significant milestone towards the projects completion. “It is amazing, it has been a lot time and this process has gone on with a lot of discussions and a lot of support from the State and Federal Governments,” he said. “This gets the ball rolling to actually see some work happening there. “It has now been endorsed, we are going to start seeing some (more) ground works. “The beauty of this is we will start seeing some progress there and eventually this will be built, which is what we have all been waiting for for a long time.” SBFC president Leigh Wright said he was looking forward to works beginning at his clubs home ground. “It has been a long process and it fantastic we are now getting to the pointy end and are starting to talk about what is going to take place,” he said. “We are now in the position where we can start talking about what is going to hit the ground, rather than the concept of doing something.” Mr Wright said it was also pleasing the contract was awarded to a local company. “It is really exciting having a contract with a local company, I think it is just a great thing,” he said. “Too often major contracts go out of town so it is nice to see one stay with a local company.” The project, which marks the oval’s first development in almost half a century, was jointly funded by Federal and State Government grants.
