Bunbury resident Bronwen English will contest safe Liberal seat of Forrest at next Federal election

The Labor party have announced they will run a candidate in the upcoming Federal election in the Division of Forrest. Bunbury resident Bronwen English has been confirmed as Labor’s choice to contest the seat, which has been held by Brunswick-born Nola Marino for 14 years. The safe blue seat has been held by Liberal MHR Nola Marino since 2007, who maintained a 21 per cent margin at the 2016 election, increasing her hold on the seat in 2019 with a 26 per cent margin. Labor have not held the seat since 1972. Ms English believes the Federal Labor branch would work closely with the State government, saying the Liberal Party have “turned their backs on WA”. “I have put my hand up as the Candidate for Forrest because I know that an Albanese Labor Government will be the partner WA needs in Canberra,” Ms English said. “I will always stand up for regional families like mine.” Ms English has lived in regional WA since she was ten years old, her mum working as a teacher and her dad as a bookkeeper. She has worked in a range of professional fields including aged care, youth work and early-childhood education. “Having worked as a dental nurse, education assistant, aged carer, early childhood educator and youth worker across country WA, I am passionate about delivering secure jobs, quality healthcare and great education for our region,” she said. Following the Australian Electoral Commission’s redistribution of electoral boundaries, which saw the Shire of Waroona moved from Forrest to Canning, the Liberal party now has a 14.5 per cent margin. A date has not yet been set for the Federal Election.
