The Shire of Dardanup is calling for Bush Adventure scholarship applicants.

A unique opportunity for young Shire of Dardanup residents aged 13 to 18 is up for grabs, thanks to the third annual Bush Adventure Scholarship Program.

The shire is calling for applicants for the fully funded three-day adventure camp in the heart of Boranup Forest from April 8-10.

Shire president Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the program, run by renowned outdoor education provider Jocelyn Evans from Right Foot Forward WA, promises an exciting experience that goes beyond the ordinary.

Cr Gardiner said participants were in for a real treat, honing essential life skills through practical learning in the stunning natural environment.

“The Bush Adventure Scholarship Program is not just a camp; it’s a transformative experience,” Cr Gardiner said.

“From hiking through the Boranup Forest to engaging in activities such as caving, team building, camping, hiking, and Indigenous culture sessions, participants will be immersed in a holistic learning environment.

“This scholarship aligns with our commitment to fostering the personal growth and development of our youth. It’s a chance for them to connect with nature, build resilience, and take charge of their journey, all while having an unforgettable time.”

The passionate force behind Right Foot Forward WA, Jocelyn Evans brings 18 years of expertise in outdoor education and a deep commitment to adventure-based learning.

Cr Gardiner said the program was designed to simplify life to its most basic needs, while allowing young people the time and space to take responsibility for themselves and one another.

He said the program addressed an action listed in the Place & Community Plan 2020-2030 adopted by the council in 2022.

“The shire extends its gratitude to returning sponsor Bunbury 4x4, as well as participant sponsors the Eaton Lions and J&P Group, for their valuable support,” Cr Gardiner said.

“In partnership with agencies, we aim to develop targeted programs for youth that contribute to reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.”

A presentation event will be hosted after the camp for families of the scholarship recipients, as well as sponsors and members of the community.

Applications for the Bush Adventure Scholarship Program close at 4pm on Monday, February 26.
