Champion mountain biker Sam Hill comes to Manjimup as four-cross track continues construction at Cosy Creek
Enduro mountain biker and former downhill champion racer Sam Hill visited Manjimup last week as the town prepares to host its first ever four-cross racing competition in June.
Hill will be involved with the design and construction phases of the new track, prior to the four-cross race over the June WA Day weekend which will coincide with the Manjimup 15,000.
Hill said the track was in its “early stages” and hoped the track would be shaped up before the rain season came through.
“It’s looking really nice with a bit of hard clay on there and we’re trying to shape everything up before the rain hits,” he said.
“With my years of experience in racing, I’m trying to design the best track that I can with the space we have.
“With four people racing at the same time, we want the racing to be nice and tight, and make a few options that work.
“At the finish line, we want it to be neck-and-neck, so we can give the crowd something to watch.”
Hill was optimistic the event would bring something for everyone and provide some excitement.
“With this format, it’s definitely going to be exciting to watch,” he said.
“There will be some take-outs, some crashes and a lot of jumps, so the main focus is keeping everyone together and putting on a good show.”
Hill told the Times he had good memories from his time in Manjimup as a kid, having rode along the Cosy Creek motocross circuit, where the 15,000 will be hosted, during the start of his racing career.
“Watching some of the races and then participating as a racer was brilliant,” he said.
