MHR appeals for organ donors to sign up

Bunbury residents are being urged to sign up as organ donors through a new online process which registers people almost instantly.

Forrest MHR Nola Marino said there were about 1400 Australians waiting for a transplant, prompting her call to “ask everyone in the South West to join the register as soon as possible”.

Last year, 503 deceased and 267 living donors contributed to 1713 people receiving donated organs around Australia and research shows more than two-thirds of Australians are willing to become organ and tissue donors.

“But only one-third have taken the step of joining the Australian Organ Donor Register,” Mrs Marino said.
