South West AFLW Watch: Margaret River’s Ella Roberts continues strong form despite loss to Richmond

Despite the West Coast Eagles once again falling just short of recording their third win of the 2022 AFLW season, two of the South West’s finest players have continued putting in the hard yards on the field. Margaret River’s Ella Roberts and Bunbury’s Ella Smith featured in West Coast Eagles’ match against Richmond at Mineral Resources Park on Friday. Although the Eagles were unable to break Richmond’s winning streak — going down 6.7 (43) to 3.6 (24) — both Roberts and Smith were solid contributors. Fresh off her AFLW Rising Star nomination last weekend, Roberts put in another strong performance as one of West Coast’s best for the match once again. Doing some damage in the midfield, the 17-year-old finished with 15 disposals, five marks and three tackles. Meanwhile, Smith continued to grow more confidence as she made her way through the ranks in her second AFLW game, finishing with four disposals and a tackle. Elsewhere, Manjimup’s Dana East was omitted from Fremantle’s line-up in their match against Adelaide on Saturday after showing delayed signs of a concussion following the Dockers’ round six match against Melbourne.
