South West AFLW Watch: Margaret River’s Ella Roberts, Manjimup’s Dana East end AFLW season with strong outings

Although neither the West Coast Eagles nor the Fremantle Dockers have managed to secure AFLW finals berths this year, two of the South West’s finest have ended their season on a high. Fresh off her mark-of-the-year nomination from last weekend, Margaret River’s Ella Roberts made an impact across the midfield despite the Eagles being on the receiving end of a 11.13 (79) to 0.1 (1) thrashing, courtesy of the Melbourne Demons at Casey Fields on Saturday. Along with fellow young gun Charlie Thomas, the 17-year-old proved a strong asset for the Eagles, using her height to create important aerial contests around the ground. Roberts ultimately finished with a game-high 22 disposals, seven marks, two hitouts and a tackle. Meanwhile, the Fremantle Dockers sent off inaugural captain Kara Antonio in style with a stunning 7.7 (49) to 7.2 (44) win over Hawthorn at Fremantle Oval on Saturday. Manjimup’s Dana East put in a solid effort for the Dockers, managing 14 disposals, two marks and seven tackles.
