Patches of rain did not stop the South West’s netballers from competing in the Busselton Netball Association-hosted South West and Peel Regional Championships. The Lou Weston Outdoor netball courts were abuzz on Saturday and Sunday as teams from the South West and Peel regions competed for glory during the two-day tournament. There were patches of rain and windy conditions on the courts on Saturday, but the sun shone on Sunday. The Peel Netball Football League Cavaliers defeated Leschenault to claim the 20 and under premiership, while in the 16 and under competitions, Mandurah held off Leschenault to win in the A division. Bridgetown defeated Serpentine Jarrahdale for the B division premiership. In the 14 and under competitions, Bunbury Blue pulled off a convincing 33-16 win over Mandurah Teal to win the A division premiership, while Bunbury Red edged out Busselton Green 26-23 in the B division. Mandurah Teal held off Bunbury 23-18 to claim the 13 and under A division premiership, while Serpentine Jarrahdale defeated Busselton Green 24-11 to win in the B division competition. In the mixed 12 and under competitions, Leschenault Blue defeated Busselton 34-23 to win in the A division, while Bridgetown held off Manjimup 20-18 to win the B division premiership. In the midst of all of the netball action on the court, a number of umpires, coaches and volunteers were acknowledged for their efforts throughout the tournament. The Manjimup 14 and under B division team received a sportsmanship award for helping an injured Bunbury player from the court.
