Sharing stories is at the centre of communities, with Love to Read Local Week helping shine a spotlight on the literary talent across the State.

As the week draws to a close tomorrow, book lovers are encouraged to wander in the west and let writers be their guide with this year’s new Love to Read Local Literary Map.

The map is a dedicated, online interactive tool showcasing WA books and authors, including some of the creative tales set in the South West.

It has been created to help traveller’s experience a deeper connection to place through books and writing and inspire readers to travel experiences connected to the books and writers they love.

Born in Bridgetown to a farming family, author Jon Doust’s novels Boy on a Wire and Return Ticket are also must-read texts on the map, representing the Manjimup-Bridgetown area.

A special mention goes to Pemberton for the Australian modern classic Jasper Jones, the film of which was shot in the South West town.

Writing WA chief executive Sharon Flindell said the map was an exciting concept that has been in development for over a year.

“It has been created to help traveller’s experience a deeper connection to place through books and writing and inspire readers to travel experiences connected to the books and writers they love,” she said.
