SWAS 2022: First kick, first goal in AFL for SWAS alumni footy star

Former South West Academy of Sport athlete turned Fremantle Docker Jye Amiss sure knows how to make a great first impression — he scored two goals in his debut AFL game.

And most impressively, his first goal came off his first kick.

The Busselton sharpshooter was swamped by his teammates who congratulated him as the crowd at Optus Stadium cheered, after booting his first goal in the game against North Melbourne on May 6.

Amiss, who played for East Perth in the WAFL colts competition and was the No. 8 pick in the 2021 NAB AFL draft, contributed to the 78-point win over North Melbourne.

SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion congratulated Amiss on his progression in the sport.

“Congratulations to Jye, it is great to follow your progress in the AFL and even better to score goals on your debut,” Butlion said.

The young gun is one of a growing list of SWAS athletes making their mark in the AFL, after receiving support in their journey to the top representative levels of the sport.

The SWAS Australian Rules Football program provides high-level support to athletes in their regional training environment.
