The stage is set for the Eaton Boomers to charge towards finals football in 2022. Remarkably, the 2021 wooden spooners are in a tussle with Donnybrook for fifth spot — the side who finished just one win above them last year. The Boomers are sixth on the ladder and trail Donnybrook by four points, but could be set to make a late run towards September. Eaton face Augusta-Margaret River this weekend at home, and will know a win will go a long way towards putting them in a good spot for the finals race. Last time they met, the Boomers went down by five points 13.10 (88) to 13.5 (83), with Hawks forward Harry Taylor scoring after the siren to break the visitors’ hearts. Eaton have a series of winnable games to close out the year, and will face the current top and bottom three in their six games to finish the season. Meanwhile, Donnybrook, the team standing in the way of the Boomers’ finals hopes, have a trickier draw, which could provide Eaton with an opening.
