Teenager, 17, charged with allegedly collecting terrorism material, importing ISIS flag into Australia

A teenager has been charged by counter-terrorism police after allegedly importing an ISIS flag into Australia and collecting material promoting the terror group. Investigations by the Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team began after an ISIS flag was allegedly tracked moving in transit toward an address in Melbourne’s inner city. Police allege further inquiries led them to identifying a 17-year-old boy as the intended recipient. Officers raided the boy’s address on Tuesday, seizing a mobile phone and a laptop for forensic examination. The teenager was charged with collecting or making documents that facilitate terrorist act and import a prohibited import – namely an ISIS flag. He has been remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date. In a statement, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said: “There is no current identified threat to community safety. No further comment will be made.”
