What in the Kimberley is the region’s most iconic feature?

Red rock ranges, crocodiles ... how about boab trees?

The Kimberley Echo wants to see your most wacky, beautiful and unique photos of boabs in our new “show us your boab” competition.

We’re inviting readers to send in their photos of weird and wonderful boab trees for the chance to win some great local prizes. You don’t have to be an expert photographer — the more raw the photo the better!

Entries will be judged by Kimberley Echo management and staff on the following criteria:

Subject matter— does the photo capture a unique or weird or beautiful or bold image of a boab in our region?

Composition— is the photo well balanced visually?

Lighting and focus — is the photo well or dramatically lit, with the subject in focus?

X-Factor— does the photo have any special qualities, such as funny poses with the entrant?

Prizes include accommodation packages from Emma Gorge Resort, Freshwater Apartments and Kununurra Country Club, vouchers from iTalk Travel Kununura and Nina’s Jewellery and Diamonds, and a sterling silver boab set with a champagne diamond from Kimberley Fine Diamonds.

The competition will run for nine rounds starting next week, with finalists announced on April 30.

To be eligible, photos must have been taken during 2019-20 and not be digitally enhanced or manipulated, for example with Photoshop or filters.
