Heavy fog in parts of Perth has triggered warnings for motorists to exercise extra caution on their morning commutes.

Various suburbs are affected, with some of the city’s major highways particularly dangerous.

Drivers taking Tonkin Highway between Brand Highway and Great Eastern Highway have been warned to drive carefully, as well as those using Graham Farmer Freeway near East Parade.

Northern parts of Perth and the Swan Valley area are some of the worst hit locations.

Main Roads WA issued an alert Thursday morning warning of “heavy fog” and urging motorists to drive to the conditions.

Due to reduced visibility, drivers are encouraged to switch their headlights on, ensure they keep a safe braking distance.

Drivers should also allow additional travel time to reach their destination.

More to come.
