Perth is under a storm threat as the weather bureau warns WA’s South West Capes region will be battered by heavy rain and potential flash floods.

Authorities this morning warned a slow-moving line of thunderstorms in the region was producing substantial rainfall.

Vasse had reported up to 25mm since 9am, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning more showers and storms were forming to the north-west.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours,” BOM warned in a statement.

“There is a risk that these thunderstorms could also be accompanied by gusty winds.”

Meanwhile the cold front is expected to reach Perth this evening, bringing showers and stormy conditions.

The rain is expected to hang around until at least Wednesday, with a “near 100 per cent chance of showers” on Monday when between four and 10 mm is predicted.
