Perth Lynx centre Lauren Scherf has played a crucial part in making a key signing for the upcoming WNBL season, with her close friend and housemate Chloe Bibby joining the club.

Bibby first played WNBL at 15 and was part of the same Dandenong Rangers team as Scherf. They have remained close friends despite Bibby moving to the US to play college basketball and are now NBL1 teammates and housemates in Victoria.

“Loz and I were playing together before I went to college so she told me good things about Perth,” Bibby said.

“I was only a kid back then but now I’ve been to college and really built my game. I got to watch pros like Penny Taylor on that Dandenong team so being able to learn from what they did and use that at college was amazing.

“I’m excited to showcase my talents now with Perth. The way the Lynx have played is the way I played at college.

“I love to shoot the three and the Lynx do that a lot so I’ll love being part of that. I can play in several positions and love the idea of playing for a team that made the grand final doing that sort of thing last season.”

Bibby has represented Australia at junior level and first played WNBL at just 15. An impressive US college career saw her invited to Minnesota Lynx for WNBA training camp.

“I got to play two games and then got cut a few days before the season started which was a bit of a bummer but that’s how it goes. It was phenomenal to be around the best players in the world and competing every day. I was grateful for that opportunity.

“My goal is to still get back there and I want to make a roster. That’s always going to be on my mind but right now I want to get into the WNBL and win a championship.”
