Fremantle are through to just the second grand final in club history and some of their stars had a huge say in the preliminary final victory.

1. Shai Bolton: 9

Bookended the game. Broke free early as a midfielder, bringing drive and penetration. In a pivotal move, they isolated him up forward in the last quarter and he made the opposition pay. Finished with seven inside-50s, seven score involvements, two goals, a goal assist and four important tackles inside forward 50.

2. Caleb Serong: 9

Loved his aggressive attitude and he played that way. Looked like James Rowbottom tried to go to him, but he was a warrior, racking up 28 touches, 10 clearances - including an important four from the centre, 10 inside-50s and over 600 metres gained.

3. Hayden Young: 9

Played his usual game time of 68 per cent, but used it nicely. Started well with seven touches, but what stood out was the goal on three-quarter-time and his ball use later in the game. It wasn’t just his 28 touches, he also had seven big tackles.

4. Andrew Brayshaw: 8

Was not as punishing in scoring chains as previous weeks but was in the trenches all game, winning 13 contested possessions in his 29 touches, plus six big tackles, then he worked hard in defensive transition for four intercepts. One was incredibly important.

5. Heath Chapman: 8

Looked settled from the start and really influenced the game from defence, particularly in the second half. Had 10 important intercepts and used the ball well rebounding from defensive 50.

6. Luke Jackson: 8

Had a wonderful battle with Brodie Grundy. The match up ebbed and flowed throughout the game. It was Jackson’s impact on the scoreboard that was the difference.

7. Alex Pearce: 7

Spent a lot of time on Charlie Curnow, keeping him to one goal and three marks for the game. Read the play well in the last quarter to take some crucial intercepts.

8. Isaiah Dudley: 7

Had several critical moments in the game from his 16 touches, plus he had five tackles, including three inside forward 50. Kicked 2.1 to go with four score involvements.

9. Matthew Johnson: 7

Had 19 touches on the wing and was consistent across the game. His three clearances in the wing role were important. Generated important disposals through a strong work rate, with five inside 50s, four score involvements and six very important intercepts.

10. Jordan Clark: 6

Was solid offensively with six intercepts and nearly 500 metres gained. Gave away four free kicks, which is too many in a pressure final.

11. Neil Erasmus: 5

Had 17 touches and over 400 metres gained from a huge work rate on the wing. Kicked the first goal, but could have used the ball a little better at times.

12. Michael Frederick: 5

Didn’t touch the ball in the first quarter, but kept the work rate up to gather 13 touches as a forward-wingman. Had three inside-50s, kicked 1.1, and his five tackles were important.

13. Corey Wagner: 5

Played his role for the team as a defender and wingman. Contributed across many facets, including 16 disposals, three clearances, four inside-50s, three score involvements and three intercepts.

14. Karl Worner: 5

As usual, was solid in defence and had three intercepts, then used the ball well exiting from defence.

15. Oscar McDonald: 5

Started well on the Swans’ key forwards, defending well and intercepting. Had a bad patch in the second half, but showed enormous courage late in the game. Had six intercepts.

16. Luke Ryan: 4

At times he looked under pressure in a hot final. When in uncontested situations he used the ball well, having just over 400 metres gained.

17. Patrick Voss: 4

Was put to sleep in the first half by Dane Rampe and didn’t touch the ball. Seemed to play higher in the third quarter and gained a handful of touches. Then had a critical moment late in the game to hit the scoreboard.

18. Judd McVee: 4

Trailed the dangerous Tom Papley in some costly errors early. Knuckled down defensively and had some huge efforts later in the game, including seven intercepts.

19. Murphy Reid: 3

Had a tough night. Missed his targets and was involved in just one scoring chain from 20 touches. He did set up Dudley for a last quarter goal, but will need to review his tape closely with some efforts.

20. Jye Amiss: 3

Would have been disappointed with his game, but did have a moment. He didn’t touch the ball early and missed a few opportunities to hit the scoreboard but showed class and deft touch to kick a nice goal later on.

21. Sam Switkowski: 3

Had 12 touches, three inside-50s and three score involvements, but surprisingly didn’t have a tackle for the game.

22. Mason Cox: 2

Influenced around the ground early, then struggled in periods of the game. Went forward to mark and goal which put his team in front when it counted.

23. Josh Treacy: 2

Looked on song early with pressure, causing a turnover for a Neil Erasmus goal, but finished with just eigh touches and just two marks. Well below par.
