Fremantle appear to have wasted no time in capitalising on the AFL’s new coronavirus restrictions, heading out for a surf just days after it was announced they could.

The Dockers had Wednesday off ahead of Sunday’s round three clash against Port Adelaide, with Griffin Logue and Jesse Hogan hitting the water in their free time.

The players rode the waves at Burleigh Beach and were joined by the likes of Matt Taberner, Lachie Schultz, Brett Bewley, Nat Fyfe and Connor Blakely.

Taberner in particular enjoyed the swell and the day away from football, with today marking his 27th birthday.

Hogan was captured with a big smile on his face, appearing in a really good place ahead of his potential AFL return this weekend.

Hogan hasn’t featured at top level in nearly 12 months, and narrowly missed selection against the Lions last week.

The 25-year-old instead starred in a scratch match at the weekend, but coach Justin Longmuir has indicated it could be a very different story this weekend.

“I was really impressed by the way he handled himself last week,” Longmuir told SEN SA.

“He was clearly disappointed when I told him he wasn’t playing, but he didn’t drop his bundle.

“He trained really well and the most impressive thing is when he went back and played against the Brisbane reserves he not only performed really well, he showed some strong leadership skills with some of the younger players down there.”

“He will come under strong consideration (for this weekend).”

Hogan’s inclusion seems all but certain as the Dockers line up without number one ruckman Sean Darcy, who injured his knee in the 12-point loss to the Lions.

Hogan is set to come in to assist Rory Lobb shoulder the ruck load.
