Port Adelaide defender Ryan Burton has warned teams coming up against a bulked-up Nat Fyfe to “look out” after the dual Brownlow medallist took a significant step forward in his third game back from injury.

Burton went head-to-head with the opposition captain during Fremantle’s thrilling win at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Fyfe, playing as a high half-forward without any centre-bounce attendances, started slowly before working into the match to finish with 21 possessions, four score involvements and a goal.

It was a huge improvement from his 11-touch performance against Carlton the previous week.

“He looks like he’s put on about five kilos around his arms and chest so for other teams coming up against him, look out,” Burton said.

Burton said he enjoyed the challenge of taking on one of the competition’s most decorated players.

“He’s a big boy and he got a few hits on me which was good for him,” Burton said.

“It was good playing on a player like that, he got pretty high into stoppage and then I tried to catch him on the way out a few times and we had a few one-on-ones there.

“He’s a quality player and I love coming up against guys like that.”

The former Hawthorn player, who’s living with WA-raised talent Mitch Georgiades, joked he wouldn’t hear the end of his stunning mark on Brennan Cox’s shoulders “for about a month”.

“I reckon Mitch’s on Max Gawn was pretty special as well so he’s now got two,” Burton said.

“He lives with me so I’m going to hear about this for about a month now.

“He’s struggled in front of goal a little bit this year but has had plenty of shots so it was nice to see him get a couple of goals early and get to work.

“He’s a dangerous forward and he’s going to earn a lot of respect from the competition in the next few years.”

Burton said the Subiaco and Hale School product, who is contracted at the Power until at least the end of 2023, was settled in Adelaide and didn’t expect him to be leaving any time soon.

“He’s settled,” Burton said.

“He’s telling me he doesn’t want to move out any time soon and he’s decked out his room nicely so I don’t see him leaving any time soon.”
