Bayern Munich have broken a near day-long silence, saying the club "disapproves" of the announcement in public from coach Hansi Flick that he wants to leave after the season's over.

Bayern, in a short statement on Sunday, confirmed that the treble-winning Flick had made the request earlier in the week but added that they'd agreed to talk about it after next week's three league matches ending at Mainz next Saturday.

"FC Bayern disapproves of the unilateral communications issued by Hansi Flick and will continue talks after the match at Mainz, as agreed," the Munich board said in the brief statement.

While no decision has been made, Munich have all but no choice to let Flick go after the five remaining games despite a deal until 2023, six titles won in the past campaign and another Bundesliga trophy looming.

It was the first reaction from the club after Flick had dropped the bombshell after Munich's 3-2 win in Wolfsburg on Saturday which saw them improve their league lead to seven points with five games left in the season.

Flick made the news public less than an hour after the final whistle in Wolfsburg, after informing the team, saying he believed the news was already spreading within Munich's headquarters.

"It was important that the team got the news from me because we have worked so well to get here over the past year and a half," Flick said.

Flick refused to go into details but the main reason is said to be a major rift with board member sports Hasan Salihamidzic.

In an interview with ZDF television on Saturday night, Flick explicitly thanked club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, president Herbert Hainer and ex-president Uli Hoeness for being given the opportunity to coach Bayern, while Salihamidzic was not mentioned.

The relationship has been damaged for months, mainly over transfer issues, and according to Kicker sports magazine, it made Flick ponder an exit since last autumn.

Kicker reported that Flick believed Salihamidzic was already even discussing a salary with Julian Nagelsmann who is considered the favourite for the Munich hotseat despite his contract until 2023 at RB Leipzig.

"There are and there have been no talks or an offer," Nagelsmann said on Sunday, adding that he is not even thinking about such scenarios.
