A Liam Ryan-inspired hanger in tricky conditions has a young East Perth high-flyer in contention for the Streamer Screamer.

Royals reserves player Jayden Peak harbours ambitions of making a league debut as soon as next season — and he’s going about it the right way with marks like the one which has him in the running for the $3000 cash prize. The 19-year-old flew for a mark against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval last month and reeled in a special grab.

“I remember locking eyes with my teammate and him setting me up perfectly,” Peak said of the mark.

“I didn’t mean to jump on to him, I sort of just jumped at the ball and landed on him and took the mark.

“I jumped the complete wrong way and had to twist my body last second and landed straight on my face.

“It was wet conditions as well, so I was pretty lucky it even happened.”

Peak said West Coast Eagles star Liam Ryan was his favourite aerialist to watch and his mark bears striking similarities to Ryan’s famous pluck in the goal-square against giant Melbourne ruck Max Gawn in 2019.

“My favourite marker: definitely Liam Ryan. He’s so exciting to watch when he takes his marks,” he said.

“My favourite mark is the one on Max Gawn ... in the goal-square, it was definitely my favourite one.”
