Aussie pro surfer Mikey Wright is being hailed a hero for saving a drowning stranger in a dramatic Hawaiian rescue.

The remarkable moment was captured on camera as Mikey risked his life, running out into huge swell in Oahu to save a beachgoer who was swept away.

“He’s gonna need to get saved,” Mikey can be heard saying in the video posted by sister Tyler on Instagram.

“Hold this,” he says as he bolts out towards the water.

“You can’t save him,” a shocked woman replies.

As terrified onlookers call for help, Mikey runs straight for the victim, before diving out into the water.

The beachgoer’s head can be seen bobbing in and out of the water as the current pulls them out to sea.

Others gather on the beach, including Mikey’s surfing sister Tyler, to try and help pull the duo to shore and remarkably, the rescue is all over in a matter of minutes.

Tyler shared the clip online, calling her brother a “hero”.

“Closing out 2020 with some hero s*** by (Mikey),” Tyler posted.

“Wow that could of ended really bad!! Well done,” surfing legend Mick Fanning commented.

The Wrights are no strangers to the ocean, with siblings Owen, Tyler and Mikey all world-class surfers.
