West Coast have delisted five players in their first-round of list cuts, including two who played this season.

Rookie-listed pair Hamish Brayshaw and Nic Reid, who made a fairytale rise from amateur club North Beach to play three AFL games, were among those cut.

The Eagles have also said goodbye to defender Francis Watson, who played two games last year and suffered a serious knee injury in July, along with untried rookie pair Anthony Treacy and Mitch O’Neill.

West Coast list manager Darren Glass thanked all players for their contributions.

“It is obviously a difficult time of the year and on behalf of the club I would like to thank each of those players for their contributions,” Glass said.

“They have all had an impact around the playing group and we wish them well for the future.”

The cuts leave five experienced players and former Geelong forward Jamaine Jones without contracts for 2021, as the Eagles wait on clarity regarding list sizes and assess their trade options.

Premiership quartet Lewis Jetta, Nathan Vardy, Mark Hutchings and Daniel Venables are all uncontracted, along with forward Brendon Ah Chee.

West Coast have asked the AFL for special list flexibility to retain Venables, who has sat out for the past 17 months with serious concussion-related issues.

It could help buy more time for a decision on the 21-year-old’s future ahead of looming list lodgement deadlines and allow him the chance to train with the club over the summer.
