The Aussies are a chance to finish on the podium across the men’s, women’s and wheelchair events in the 3x3 basketball arena, and elsewhere, there’s no shortage of action taking place.
It’s the final day of swimming action as we look to add to a whopping haul of golds, and there’s also lots happening in track-and-field off the back of an impressive first couple of days.

Basketball heartbreak
Australia’s bid for an unprecedented golden Commonwealth Games sweep 3x3 basketball is over after suffering a heartbreaking women’s wheelchair semi-final loss.
The Wombat women were Australia’s last 3x3 team to play on early Thursday morning (AEST) and had to down hosts Scotland to join their compatriots in the gold medal matches.
But it wasn’t to be, with a boisterous Scottish crowd helping to power the hosts to a 15-12 win over Australia.
Family affair
Oliver ‘Ollie’ Saxton has lifted his way to a Commonwealth Games bronze and fulfilled his family’s legacy.
Son of five-time Commonwealth Games medallist, Andrew Saxton, the Perth weightlifter added his own hardware to the family trophy cabinet.
The 23-year-old displayed incredible feats of human strength during his debut games, lifting a total of 336kg.
WA’s Ollie Saxton lifts up bronze!
Perth’s Ollie Saxton stunning display of strength has secured him the bronze medal, completing his family legacy.
Thanks to a courageous start with a 156kg snatch, Saxton went on to lift a combined 336kg.
He fills his father’s big shoes, who was a five-time Commonwealth Games medallist for England and Australia.
It was a thrilling finish to the men’s 94kg final, after Saxton and Bellemarre looked to have silver and gold in hand following their lifts.
That was until Malaysia’s Mohamad Syahmi Bin Nor-Ghazali came out and cleared an insane 197kg clean and snatch on his first attempt.
Ollie overtaken
Bellemare has overtake Saxton’s position with a 187kg lift, sitting 10kg clear of the West Aussie.
Ollie will now attempt a staggering 191kg clean and jerk to take his lead back, an ambitious, but necessary, goal to say the least.
Second time’s the charm
Second time was the charm for Ollie Saxton who proves the weight wasn’t too heavy.
Getting the 180kg up puts him in the lead with a 336kg total.
The West Aussie will try 186kg with his final lift.
Just two competitors remain who can best Saxton’s spot.
First attempt fail
Ollie will need another crack at 180kg.
His clean was done in fine form but his shortcoming came at the jerk.
Two more fall
Back in the iron palace, two more competitors have bowed out of the weightlifting final.
A 180kg clean and jerk would put Ollie in good standing.
Heartbreak for women’s wombats
Heartbreak for the women’s wombats who have dropped their semi-final match against Scotland 15-12, the only 3x3 Aussie side to not make the gold medal match.
The Scots jumped ahead early and Australia couldn’t close that gap despite the higher shooting percentage. Experienced star Georgia Munro-Cook had six points in the loss.
Saxton in second
Ollie Saxton finishes the snatch with his 156kg lift, after failing to break the Commonwealth Games record on his third attempt.
He watched Bellemarre set a new record of 159kg and once again attempted to one up at 160kg.
A weight he has cleared before, unfortunately Saxton couldn’t get it up this time and currently sits at second place going into his less preferred clean and jerk.
Saxton one up’s the comp
After Canadian Alex Bellemarre lifted 155kg, Saxton decided to go one better on his second attempt.
Not only attempting a whopping 156kg but lifting it cleanly to hit the lead.
