After scoring his first Test ton, Joe Root went on to torment the Aussies along with Jofra Archer in a swashbuckling last-wicket stand to give England the honours on day one.

Nathan Lyon did not mince his words after being left out as Australia hope to break this last wicket stand and make the most of batting in the dyalight.

Will Root continue to stymie the home side or can Australia fightback to regain control of this second Test.

Reporting LIVE

11th Over: AUS 0-57

Stokes brings himself on early and is England’s miracle man.

Starts with a full bunga that Head clips for three.

SHOT! Glorious late cut past backward point for another boundary. Australia going at more than five an over.

Ooh. Too close to the body to cut but Weatherald gets away with it and that’s drinks.

Dream start with the bat for Australia with England sloppy in their lines and Head getting that ealy life.

Weatherald has look calm at the crease after a frenetic Test debut.

10th Over: AUS 0/50

First bowling change as Brydon Carse replaces Atkinson. Was arguably the best of the England bowlers in Perth.

Full on middle and Weatherald jams it out behind square for one.

FOUR! Head finally breaks the schackles as he gets some width and just throws the hands at it to send through backward point.

SIX! Not as controlled this time as Head gets a thick edge but it flies over gulley and all the way over the rope.

50 partnership! More width and HEad gets it squarer this time, but not quite off the middle as they run three to bring up a second consectuvie 50 run stand

9th Over: AUS 0/35

DROPPED! Jamie Smith drops a regulation edge off Travis Head as he goes gloves up after being caught moving leg side.

It bursts off the top glove and past the slips. That’s poor from the keeper.

Head gets off strike with a single off the hip.

FOUR! Archer is short and wide and Weatherald uppercuts over gulley for another boundary to add insult to injury.

Keeps the strike with a single.

8th Over: AUS 0/30

SHOT! Best of the morning as Atkinson overpitches and Weatherald crunches the cover drive.

FOUR MORE. On the pads and Weatherald flicks it away for four.

ANOTHER ONE. Width outside off this time, and the Tasmanian square drives forward of point to make it a productive over.

Leaves the last.

7th Over: AUS 0-18

Weatherald is facing Archer for the first time, controls a pull to deep square to get off strike.

Play and miss. Head is caught on the crease and jabs at one, and it somehow misses the edge.

Archer finding his rythm here.

Lions update

Jhye Richardson has taken four wickets to help Australia A roll the England Lions for 166.

The WA quick was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-25 from his 12 overs in a pleasing return.

Tom Haines top-scored for the vistors with 31.

6th Over: AUS 0-16

Weatherald drops and runs a single, meaning Head will face Aktinson for the first time.

Gets one on the Head and turns it into legside for one.

Weatherald is surprised by some bounce but does well to keep it down off the glove.

Gets another single to finish off the hip

5th Over: AUS 0-14

Archer jags one into Head who cops a body blow.

Too straight and Head whips two off the pads to get his innings going.

FOUR BYES! On the pads again but shorter as it flies off the pads as Head misses the flick.

BEAUTY. Archer pitches on a good length and it nibbles away to just miss Head’s outside edge.

4th Over: AUS 0-8

RUNS! First of the innings, as Weatherald gets some width and leans back on a cut through backward point for four.

STREAKY FOUR! Atkinson goes short and Weatherald pulls and it flies off the top edge over the keeper running back and nearly goes for six.

Not much control in that shot

3rd Over: AUS 0-0

Archer is warmed up, it seems, and bowling in the 140’s now.

Head leaves and fends away as England make it three maidens on the bounce.
