Mercure Melbourne La Trobe Street opened yesterday (Tuesday March 3) — the biggest purpose-built hotel to open in the Victorian capital’s CBD this year.

And the $90 million, 18-storey hotel at 492 La Trobe Street is the first new-build Mercure in Melbourne’s city centre in over a decade.

It has 195 rooms, including six suites, a terrace bar and a restaurant called Foundry.

For the hotel draws on the site’s former life as a tinsmith factory. In addition to Foundry, the hotel balances industrial detailing with a contemporary aesthetic.

For a standard room with a king-sized bed in April 2026, prices start from $178.70. That’s for up to two people in a 22sqm room.

ROOM HIGHLIGHTS

+ Guestrooms are framed by floor-to-ceiling windows.

+ The hotel’s “crown jewel”, Suite 1603, has a two-person freestanding bathtub set against a window overlooking the skyline.

FOUNDRY RESTAURANT

On level six, Foundry has a 30-seat bar with a 6m red marble bench.

The 130-seat restaurant opens onto a 60-person outdoor terrace overlooking Flagstaff Gardens and the city skyline.

Interiors reference the site’s tinsmith history, with copper and brass detailing.

It serves Victorian wines, local tap beers and inventive cocktails.

LOCATION LOCATION

Close to Flagstaff Gardens, the hotel is within walking distance of Southern Cross Station, Marvel Stadium and Queen Victoria Market.
